During the initial planning and game design phase, I contributed to defining the gameplay loop, controls, and overall player experience. We established the project as a co-op puzzle platformer with two elemental characters with unique abilities.
With a strong focus on art and visual identity for the game, I considered how the UI could support and complement the game's visual direction.
Once the core gameplay and visual direction had been established, I conducted more targeted UI/UX research into co-op platformers to explore how information, controls, and player feedback are communicated within the genre.
Collaborated with 3d artists to define a visual direction for the UI that aligned with the game's gothic aesthetic and intended environment art.
Colour palettes, typography, and visual styling were chosen to support the overall art direction while ensuring it would remain clear against the game background.
I made UI assets based on hand-drawn concepts into clean vector-based assets that can be used for implementation.
With a focus on creating visually cohesive ornaments to match the game's theme, I also wanted to create clear hierarchy for each menu by using ornaments as visual guides for the user's eyes.
Implemented UI into engine, along with controller based UI in Unreal Engine 5 using Blueprint only. Improvements and iterations were made each week from testing feedback.
